Brockport Kiwanis Club Meetings
There are many aspects to being a Kiwanian. One of them is building relationships with your fellow Kiwanians. To encourage and facilitate this, Kiwanis meetings traditionally include having a meal together. The Brockport Kiwanis Club enjoys perpetuating this rich tradition. The weekly meeting is at the heart of the Kiwanis Club of Brockport. At these meeting we build relationships, enjoy fellowship, plan our service projects, learn about events, programs and business in our community through our guest speakers, and enjoy some food together.
The Brockport Kiwanis Club meets every Wednesday. Because of the schedules of most of our members, most of our meetings are at lunch time. However, there are some who can't make mid-day meetings so we have included one evening meeting each month in our regular meeting schedule.
Weekly Meeting Schedule
On the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th Wednesdays, we meet at 12:15 pm for a lunch meeting. On the 3rd Wednesday of each month we meet at 6:30 pm for a dinner meeting. All of our regular meetings are held at Flash's Tavern, 36 Erie St. in Brockport.
What to Expect
Though we don't have an exact format for all of our weekly meetings, there are some common components. Members are encouraged to arrive up to 15 minutes before the scheduled meeting start time. This time is used to greet one another, introduce themselves to visitors, pay the treasurer for their meals and purchase 50/50 drawing tickets. The meeting officially begins with the President calling the meeting to order and leading the Club in the Pledge of Allegience. The pledge is immediately followed by a prayer by one of the club members.
While the waitress takes orders for the meal, the President introduces our speaker and guests. If another Kiwanis club is joining us for an inter-club, they are given time to introduce themselves and tell us what their club is doing. The President goes over current announcements for our club and highlights activities of other clubs in the Genesee Division and New York District events that might include our members. This portion of the meeting also includes committee reports and discussions of upcoming club events.
A highlight of many of our meetings is a program presented by a guest speaker. Programs cover a broad range of topics and interests. Owners of new area businesses may be invited to tell us about their unique service to our community. We also have representatives from community agencies educate us about their programs.
