Another Murder Planned for Brockport!?!
Someone's going to die! Find out who it is and help figure out who-dun-it. The script for the 2008 Brockport Kiwanis Mystery Theater is being written. Performances are tentatively scheduled for November 1, 7 & 8 at the A.D. Oliver Middle School. This annual event features the B.U.M. Players, a troup of local actors. As it has been for the past few years, the Who-Dun-It mystery play is being written by Brockport's own Gary "Turk" Thomas in collaboration with the B.U.M. Players.
Details of this year's production are developing. Information about the play's title, cast and crew will be posted as it becomes available.

Brockport Kiwanis Helps Buy Dugout Fences

President Bob presents Sweden Town Supervisor Nat Lester with a check for construction of dugout fences.
As construction of a regulation size baseball field at Sweden Town Park nears completion, the Kiwanis Club of Brockport has joined with other service clubs in Brockport to buy fences to go in front of the dugouts. Sweden Town Supervisor Nat Lester attended the Club's luncheon meeting on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 and spoke to the club about the new field. He was presented with a check for $800 by Brockport Kiwanis Club President, Bob Reusch.
The total cost of the fences is $3200. BISCO (Brockport Integrated Service and Community Organization), the Lions Club of Brockport and the Brockport Rotary Club are joining Kiwanis by contributing $800 each to the project. According to Supervison Lester, over $100,000 in private contributions was received towards this project. This is one of the nicest ball fields he has seen, complete with a wooden outfield fence like Fenway Park, an underground drainage system and pop-up sprinklers. He said it wouldn't have been possible to construct this new facility without donations like these.

Kiwanis Club of Brockport Gives Back to the Community During the Holiday Season

Bob Reusch, President of the Kiwanis Club of Brockport, presents Ruth Ann Tryka of the Brockport Toy Shelf with a check for $500.

Julia Frank, a social worker at the Brockport Oliver Middle School, assists Kiwanis Club of Brockport President Bob Reusch in food deliveries for local families.
Brockport Toy Shelf
The Kiwanis Club of Brockport presented a check for $500 to the Brockport Toy Shelf in December. Concerns about possibility of lead content in toys led to the Club's decision to provide a cash donation this year, rather than purchase toys through the source we have used over the past few years.
Holiday Dinner Donations
The Kiwanis Club of Brockport also presented Thanksgiving and Christmas food donations to Julia Frank, a social worker at the Brockport Oliver Middle School, to help local families in need of holiday cheer. Meals including all the fixings for a feast were delivered to the school by Kiwanis President Bob Reusch.
Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf
The Brockport Kiwanis Club also gave a gift of $600 to the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets.
33rd Annual Brockport Kiwanis Holiday Craft Fair
The Brockport Kiwanis Club held its 33rd annual Holiday Craft Fair at the Sweden-Clarkson Community Center on Sunday December 2, 2007. With a total of 73 craft vendors, it was the largest craft show in Brockport in many years. Artists displayed handmade crafts and art of every description from traditional fabrics, wood and jewelry to photography, paintings, and glass. There were many new and unusual items including uniquely illuminated displays suitable for home or office decoration.
There were lots of activities to fill out the day. Live music was provided by local school music groups. The Brockport HS Key Club ran a food concession table that included hots grilled by our own President Bob. About 50 items were donated by the venders for door prizes which were given away throughout the day. And of course, we had a 50/50 drawing.
The Brockport Kiwanis Craft Fair is held the first Sunday in December every year. Plans are already under way for the 34th Annual Craft Show, scheduled for December 7, 2008. Many venders registered for the 2008 show before leaving this year's show.

Round Robin Visits The Brockport Kiwanis Club

Round Robin with York-Leicester Kiwanis President Linda Christiano and Brockport Club President Bob Reusch.
The York - Leicester Kiwanis Club brought Round Robin with them when they joined Brockport for an inter-club at our evening meeting on November 21, 2007.
In Kiwanis culture, a Round Robin is the term used to describe when a club attends an inter-club with each of the other clubs in their division during an administrative year. To add a little more fun to this activity, Brockport Kiwanian Dan Perry came up with the idea of naming this doll (which he had in his attic?!?) "Round Robin" and passing her around between clubs in the Genesee Division.
Round Robin didn't stay in Brockport very long. Kiwanians Bob, Judy and Dave took her to the Rochester West Central Club on November 27th. For more on the travels of Round Robin, visit the Batavia Kiwanis Club web site.
Brockport Kiwanis Club Installs New Officers
Installation Dinners are a cherished tradition of the Brockport Kiwanis Club. This annual ceremony gives club members an opportunity to gather together for a relaxed time of fellowship with each other and our spouses and special friends. As the baton is passed to the new officers, we also celebrate the successes of the past year through the contributions of each member.
The Installation Dinner for the 2007-2008 officers was held in the Presidential Room in the Cooper Center at SUNY Brockport on September 19, 2007. Incoming Genesee Division Lieutenant Govenor, Pat Weissand administered the oaths of office to our 4 new officers.
The new officers are President Bob Reusch, Vice-President Dave Jewell, Secretary Becky Gillette, and Treasurer Krys Staub.

Murder in Brockport!?!? CSI's Turned Out in Force!
The crime was solved! The Brockport Kiwanis Club Murder Mystery Theatre production of "Clean-up In Aisle 13" was a huge success as amauture CSI's of all experience levels turned out en-masse to enjoy an evening of entertainment and help figure out who dun it.
This original, audience participation, murder mystery play was written by Brockport's own Gary "Turk" Thomas and was performed by the B.U.M. players. There were four performances, October 19, 20, 26 & 27, 2007.
Audience members showed up early to view some of the evidence and observe clues before the play began. During intermissions, as they enjoyed refreshments the audience CSI's could continue to inspect the evidence and interview the cast members who remained "in-role" and mingled with the crowds.
Following the second intermission, the culprit was revealed and some of the audience CSI accusation sheets were read. Prizes were awarded each night to the audience member who came closest to figuring out who dun it, how they did it and what the motive was.
Special thanks to Bob and Debbie Ryan who allowed their store, Ryan's Big M, to be used as the setting for the fictional "Aisle 13". Parts of the play were filmed in advance in the store.
Successful Launch of Circle K at SUNY Brockport
On September 7, 2007, the SUNY Brockport Circle K Club held it's first meeting. In an effort spearheaded by Kiwanians Dave Jewell and Lynda Cochran, the Club is off to a strong start. By working sign-up tables on campus last Spring and at the beginning of this semester, more than enough students were brought together to surpass charter requirements. It was fantastic to receive inquiries from other Kiwanis Clubs in the New York District who wanted to get students they knew connected with Circle K. (Thanks to East Yonkers Kiwanian Nancy Shaw whose niece is a SUNY Brockport student.)
Kiwanis Club Brings Soap Box Derby to Brockport
The 2nd Annual Brockport Kiwanis Soap Box Derby Rally was held on August 25&26, 2007 on the Smith Street hill in Brockport. For the second consecutive year racers from New York and other parts of the northeast came to Brockport to participate in rally racing to earn points that would assist them in their goal of qualifying for the national championship races held in Akron, OH next year. The races in Brockport were among the first in the 2007-08 season.
The twenty-eight racers and their pit crews began arriving in Brockport before dawn on the 25th. ... (full story)
500 Chickens Fly the Coop!
Well, actually, it was 500 half chickens. And it was a tent not a coop. The Brockort Kiwanis Club held two very successful Chicken BBQ's this summer. Both events were held in the parking lot of Ryan's Big M on North Main St. in Brockport. Between the two days, we served about 500 chicken dinners. Smoke filled the air as the chickens were cooked on-site by Clor's Catering from Batavia. The dinners were assembled and served to drive-up customers by Brockort Kiwanians and members of the Brockport High School Key Club. 100% of the proceeds from the sales will be used by the Kiwanis Club to support youth programs in Brockport, the surrounding communities and around the world.
Many thanks to Bob Ryan for the use of his parking lot and to the Key Clubbers who so cheerfully gave their time. Thanks also to Kiwanian Tod for organizing both events.
Brockport Kiwanis Web Site Wins Frist Place
To be honest, we didn't even know that the New York District Kiwanis had a web site contest. That being said, The Kiwanis Club of Brockport is honored to have won first place as the top ranking individual club web site in the District. With over 40 clubs in the competition (having a site means your club is automatically entered), Brockport achieved a score of 55.7 out of a possible 60 points. See the full story on the New York District Kiwanis web site.
Belle Goes Missing!
On January 12, 2007, Belle, from the Batavia Kiwanis Club went missing after a Genesee Division Counsel meeting. This may not seem like Brockport Kiwanis Club news, but it is being reported here because the Brockport Kiwanis Club's 1st annual Masquerade Ball was mentioned in the story. Fortunately, there was a happy ending as Belle returned home. Click here to find out what happened to Belle.
